Segments
We have decided to break everybody in gently for the first month. The 3 segments are below. In fact it might actually be hard to tell which is which. Never fear as the summer progresses the hill segment will get steeper, the TT longer and the sprint sprintier :0)
It helps to ‘star’ these segments in strava and depending on your GPS device you will get notification while riding.
The segments start and finish are marked with white lines. Remember don’t get carried away – watch the traffic – stay safe
The TT
Crossgar Speedway. (https://www.strava.com/segments/3610488)
This one is just over a mile long – On the main road from Downpatrick to Crossgar it starts just before the chicken houses and finishes just after the bus stop in the town
just past the big 30 sign.
The Hill
Creevy To Church (https://www.strava.com/segments/12112532)
On the main Crossgar to Ballynahinch road this climb is 0.5 miles starting opposite Creevy road and finishing just past church road.
The surface is a bit dodgy about half way up on the left so watch out.
The Sprint
Charge to the Knee Breakers (https://www.strava.com/segments/17755674)
On the road from Crossgar to Killyleagh – it starts at a white wall and finishes at the top of the hill just past the turn in for the Lough road.
Any questions or queries contact your team captain.
Let the banter begin!
Results
Results for the first month of the season are now in. With so many riders and the new team format it takes a bit longer to collate the results.
Fantastic to see so many new faces taking part in the competition and for sure the new format gives it that added twist. Also great to see existing members having a go and getting involved. No doubt about it – this will improve you as a cyclist.
Special mention to the Keary brothers who have shown themselves to be super strong and definitely ones for reigning champ Gary to keep an eye on.
It’s a bit early to work out which one of them is the strongest but Patrick did destroy the KOM on the speedway that has existed since October 2013!!
Rumours of a faint tailwind are unfounded.
Team competition so far:
1st Square wheels 309
2nd Siv’s Sprinters 251.5
3rd No Pressure 245
Square Wheels captained by Gary O’Connor was the only team where all 4 team members posted times for all segments and this shows in the results.
Well done folks.
Individual competition so far:
1st Patrick Keary 103.5
2nd Gary O’Connor 100.5
3rd Siv 98
4th Kieran McVeigh 95.5
5th Paul Keary 90
At the minute Patrick is the man to beat taking top marks in 2 segments and 2nd in the other. Lets see if he can sustain it!
Segments for May are now up. Get them done early and often!! Keep safe and good luck.
Many thanks to the captains for organising and encouraging their teams.
One last thing – if anybody feels that the team format is not for them for whatever reason we have 2 other riders who missed the start and would be able to step in.
